Upon first use of 16oz or larger candles burn your candle for at least two hours, for smaller candles until the surface has turned into a wax pool. This first step helps create a more consistent and even burn and lengthens the life of your candle.
Keep wick center and trim 1/4" before each lighting. By doing this is makes sure your candle is brighter and gives you a cleaner burn. Trimming before every use prevents your candle from smoking and creating soot marks.
Make sure the candles wax pool is free from wick trimmings and other debris at all times.
Do not burn your candle for longer than 3 hours or until a complete wax pool forms across the entire surface.
Always burn candles within sight and on heat safe surfaces. Never burn a candle near anything that can catch on fire.
Keep candles out of reach of children and pets.
Never leave a burning candle unattended, when putting out a candle never use water. Make sure the wick ember is no longer glowing.
Place you candle in an area away form drafts, open air vents, or ceiling fans. This will help avoid rapid burning and prevent flare ups. Keeping your candle away from highly trafficked areas in your home or anywhere that can disturb the flame, which would cause it to create black smoke stains or soot buildup on your mason jar or paint can.
When burning your candle make sure it is placed on a stable, heat resistant surface. Making sure it is on a fire safe surface will help prevent heat damage to an underlying surface and prevent the mason jar from breaking.
If your candle smokes repeatedly, flickers, or creates a high flame it isn't burning properly and the wick needs to be trimmed again. Extinguish the candle and allow the candle to fully cool before you align and trim the wick.
Never burn your candle all the way to the bottom on the mason jar or paint can. Stop burning your candle when there is 1/2" of wax remaining. Burning your candle too low may cause the mason jar to break.
After putting out your candle allow it to cool completely before touching it or moving it. Remember if you have been burning your candle for the recommended time and there is a pool of wax the mason jar or paint can is going to be hot. If you need to pick the candle up use a heat safe protection like an oven mitt.
